Drama-infused streaming news

Hulu Quietly Added 24 Catalog Series In November And December
'The Golden Palace,' starring Betty White, is now streaming.

Why would Hulu not promote 24 missing library series finally arriving? Beats us! Check out the list.

Steaming bingeable TV series is one of the primary facets to any streaming service and main reasons people sign up. Over 95 percent of the series on Disney+ last under 4 seasons due to a long-running Disney rule that 4 seasons is the max. That rule only broke 1 year ago with Bunk’d (unavailable in USA until late 2020s) and Raven’s Home receiving 5th seasons.

Unlike Disney+, Hulu understands the importance of TV for grown-ups, variety in TV, and bingeable TV in general.

Hulu has just added The Golden Palace! It was intended to be for Betty White’s 100th birthday, but now it serves to mourn her.

In November and December Hulu received a whopping 24 “non-children’s TV” bingeable series. That’s about 20 more than Disney+ has received in 2+ years all in a 35-day period. What’s bizarre and frustrating to people who are rooting for Disney+ is that television is so “casual” to Hulu that they didn’t even feel the need to tell anybody they did it.

No big tweets announcing a huge content drop. No acknowledgement on the monthly lists they send to press of “what’s coming” and “what’s leaving.” Imagine adding 12 library series in November and not telling people you were doing it. Imagine adding 12 in December and only telling people you were adding 1, Alias.

Insufficient marketing and Disney+ slights aside, it’s excellent news for Hulu. Hulu was our runner-up for most improved service in the 2021 DejaView Awards. Now these series can swim in the crowded sea with all the other series they stream and never be discovered or watched due to oversaturation. Particularly, we are sour about Galavant.

Congratulations, Hulu, on finally getting titles that have been streaming on STAR internationally since February 2021. We are kind of expecting another surprise drop of titles in late January if they keep this pattern going. At last count, Disney is still missing over 50 series that are on VOD and over 200 series from their history.

Which series do you hope to see next? We’re hoping for The Betty White Show, Ellen, No Ordinary Family, and Ruby And The Rockits.

Special thanks to our Data Director Greg for compiling those lists.
