Everything New Streaming On Disney+ In September 2022: Another Disappointing Disney+ Day?

Here's everything scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in September 2022! The most originals in one month since launch but...

UPDATE: After the September 1st video added a couple titles we needed to update our list and our graphics… we’ve also revamped them to be more eye-catching and stylish.

Here is our updated color chart for September (including the additional content added in August). We’re starting off in the green which is a very nice change of habit. But with most of the content added this year coming from Sing-Alongs (aka duplicate titles) and ESPN 30 for 30s it somehow feels like nothing is arriving. Disney+ Day Lineup is strong on originals, but very weak with catalog. Much worse than last year… so far. 🤞 They DID do a weird announcement 4 days beforehand with catalog additions which if they stick with that schedule would put them on track for a “but wait, there’s more” announcement a week from now. We also hope the September 1st video releasing in a couple days will mention a handful of extra content…

September has 33 library titles announced. August ended up with 33.

What’s In A Number?

Disney+ has crossed the 900 title threshold on total library (by our definition) post-launch. As we’ve mentioned often, we’re being generous for simplicity’s sake. The true number if we subtract the titles that have been re-added 2 or 3 times, do not count each season added of a series as a new “title,” remove the silly “duplicated” titles like the Sing-Alongs and properly count the I Am Groot shorts as 1 series instead of 5 episodes, strangely listed as individual shorts… *catches breath* we’d be closer to 700 titles which is basically doubling the library in a 2.5 year period.

Not particularly impressive. Throw in the originals and the titles added between launch on November 12. 2019 and the end of November since we do not include those numbers in our calculations and that brings us to 1,686 titles, the current OFFICIAL total. This is the smallest major streaming service, behind Hulu which has about 700 titles more. After that a 600 title gap separates Hulu from Peacock, Paramount+, and HBO Max which are all basically tied at ~3,000 titles.

We are so tired of Disney’s unwillingness to grow the library in accordance with their competitors. The price increase in December will surpass Peacock and Paramount+… who will have a library that is double the size of Disney by then. if they don’t announce a SIGNIFICANT content drop of 500-1000 titles between now and then then they truly do not value their Disney+ USA subscribers and have one hell of an ego problem.

Averages / Totals

948 library titles since launch. 68 removed titles still lost. 880 total. Monthly average up for 2nd month in a row.

ESPN and Nat Geo are back with a vengeance. Since launch, Disney+ has mostly added Nat Geo, so nobody should be surprised and ESPN has dominated this year despite not having a brand tile.

Leaving Disney+ September 1, 2022

Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) is leaving for Starz. This marks the second exit for this film in an 11 month period. 10 Things I Hate About You and Kazaam COULD leave for Hulu, but they could also be shared. We won’t know until September 1. Man in the Arena: Tom Brady is leaving Hulu September 1 so it very well may leave Disney+ at the same time.

We’ve been correct every month for the past 6 months about some exiting titles. We again remind you that X-Men Days of Future Past will leave September 1st or October 1st as it will enter HBO Max between October and November. The same can be said about The Book Of Life. Looks like it w

UPDATE September 2nd: Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs did indeed leave. We got lucky, 10 Things, Kazaam, and Man in the Arena stayed! Looks like X-Men Days of Future Past is October. We can also now confirm Night at the Museum 2 will be leaving October 1st.

Please follow along here as we track removals and returns.

Analysis & Ramblings

General Entertainment

Despite Disney+ Day, there is nothing to report. They’re continuing the ESPN 30 for 30 drip feed. Nothing else meaningful. No Malcolm in the Middle, no Doogie Howser, no Rated R films, no Touchstone films, no ABC or 20th TV series, no How I Met Your Father or Only Murders In The Building. Adults remain unwelcome on Disney+.

SharkFest

Well, it’s official. SharkFest ended and they have randomly kept almost half the 20th anniversary lineup fromi streaming. Even weirder, we get a SharkFest title from 2015. Are Nat Geo SharkFest titles going to continue to trickle in all year?

Additional Data: SharkFest Title Whereabouts

Disney+ Day

As usual, nothing older than 2018 and zero missing cartoons, zero Disney Channel library, and no general entertainment outside the ESPN brand. Disney+ Day lineup blows off catalog completely. Where is the “Enchanted” this year? Bear in the Big Blue House, House of Mouse, Aladdin The Series, Zorro, Fillmore, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, AFV (Bob Saget years), The Mickey Mouse Club, Disneyland, Home Improvement, Muppets Tonight… this is the stuff that should have been coming. As we kick-off the #Disney100 celebrations this is particularly concerning.

Where’s Walt?

As always, no love for Walt. Every month multiple titles from his era should have been arriving since launch. Did you know that D23 has a panel / reunion set for the 1989 series The All-New Mickey Mouse Club?” How furious will you be when that panel doesn’t announce the series is coming to streaming?

Horrible. 34 months without a serial. 26 months without a Disneyland episode (a staple of the first half a year of the service). 2 years without a classic short. 15 months with a film released during Walt’s lifetime.

Disney Channel and Cartoon Check-In

The cartoon library remains ignored for an unbelievable 12th month in a row. Still no Fillmore! even though the UK got it, which is truly bonkers. Fillmore celebrates his 20th anniversary in September which makes this even more asinine.

1 year since the last cartoon. Paramount+ has added multiple this year bringing its total to almost complete library.

Additional data: 46 Missing Cartoons

For reference, here is Paramount+’s Nickelodeon library efforts from this year:

Paramount+ consistently provides missing Nick animation catalog, unlike Disney+.

The Live Action libraries from Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Junior have been senselessly abandoned. They’ve added 1 out of the many missing titles in the past 17 months, and I’m sorry, that’s literally just unprofessional at this point. Gamer’s Guide leaked months ago and then they took it down… what’s taking so long to get it and the rest of the Disney XD library released?

This has to be a joke, right?

Nat Geo Library Is STILL Not Catching Up

How do you miss THIS many titles in 1.5 years from the service that is supposedly the “streaming home” of Nat Geo? We’ll give them credit, September is better than it’s been in a while, but since they adding multiple international titles the domestic backlog continues to grow.

No missing specials have been added in months. UPDATE September 2nd: They’ve finally scheduled the only missing 2022 special: Gorongosa: Paradise Reborn (2022)! Can we circle back to 2021 now? Y’all left a TON off.

Recent Specials:

  • Gorongosa: Paradise Reborn (2022) (Now arriving September 16!)
  • Home Rediscovered (2021)
  • Rise Again: Tulsa and the Red Summer (2021) (On Hulu in USA)
  • Killer High The Silent Crisis (2021) (Left Hulu in May 2022)
  • Our America: Todos Unidos (2021)
  • Mountain Strong: Surviving the Creek Fire (2021)
  • Serpent’s Surprise (2021)
  • Our America: Asian Voices (so ridiculous this wasn’t added for AAPI month) (2021)
  • Our America: Climate of Hope (2021)
  • The Last Drop (2021)
  • Mission Possible: The Race for a Vaccine (2021)
  • The March on Washington: Keepers of the Dream (2021)
  • North Korea: Inside the Mind of a Dictator (2021)
  • Launch America: Mission to Space Live (2020)
  • Butt Heads: The Strange Story of Sheep (2020)

And now that Disney strangely abandoned the batch strategy, the recent seasons of shows are also VERY far behind:

  • Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted Showdown (Season 1) – Airing Episodes
  • Incredible Dr. Pol (Season 21) – Airing Episodes
  • Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown (Season 1) – Airing Episodes
  • Cesar Milan: Better Human Better Dog (Season 2) – Finished August
  • World of Flavor with Big Moe Cason (Season 1) – Finished August
  • Wild Fish (Season 1) – Finished July
  • Wicked Tuna (Season 11) – Finished July
  • Port Protection Alaska (Seasons 1-5 are missing, 1-2 since launch, 3-4 since they removed it in August, 5 never arrived)
  • CAR SOS (Season 9) – 2021 (Aired over a year ago. Previous seasons arrived.)
  • Lost Treasures of Egypt (Season 2 skipped over when 3 arrived. Season 2 aired in 2020 and is currently stuck on NatGeoTV.com due to a licensing mistake) – 2020
  • Atlas of Cursed Places (Season 1) – Streams outside USA.
  • 9/11: One Day in America (Season 1) – Streams outside USA.

The Usual “Missing Titles” Watch

The usual “missing titles” watch with some new additions:

  • Epic (2013) Blue Sky film and Dr. Dolittle 2 (2008) both left HBO August 1 and were previously on Disney+ USA. New Mutants left HBO July 1 and is going to some countries on Disney+ Day.
  • Bridge to Terabithia, Dick Tracy, and Jungle Book 1994 left HBO February 28th, 2021. 1 of the 3 stream internationally.
  • Millions, Dr. Dolittle 5 and Flicka: Country Pride recently left HBO or Starz. All 3 stream internationally and 1 of 3 were once on Disney+ USA. We hear rumors that Millions and Flicka 4 might go to HBO while Dr. Dolittle 5 goes to Starz. The way the toxic Fox library deals seem to work is they switch back and forth between Starz and HBO with an occasional, brief stop at Disney+.
  • The BFG, Tini: The New Life of Violetta, and Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell remain missing despite Disney+ streaming all 3 internationally and pulling them off Netflix February 28, 2022. The BFG already streamed on Disney+ in the past. Tini appears to have been vaulted because Disney doesn’t prioritize international content, but they aired her concert on Disney+ earlier this summer. Their team is not the sharpest as that was the ideal time to add the film.
  • Shaggy Dog (2006) – Removed December 2019. Has never appeared anywhere since.
  • Everybody’s Hero and Eddie the Eagle remain lost after mysterious removals.
  • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked never returned after leaving for Peacock, then leaving Peacock. It’s believed they may be heading to Starz or HBO due to the extended absence.

Additional data: 85 Missing Disney Pictures Films

Additional data: Over 2000 Missing Touchstone, Hollywood, and Fox Films

Additional data: All Titles Removed From Disney+ USA

Final Thoughts

September is another disappointing month, as they always are when your standards are variety and catalog. A TON of originals are coming. Most ever in 1 month. We love that. But it’s not what we paid for. We paid for a total package, not a service that pretends anything made before 2020 doesn’t exist. The weird drip feed of ESPN 20 for 30s continues with no collection or ESPN brand tile.and Nt Geo makes their presence known, but as always, Disney blows off its own library. We are quite happy to see 3 Fox films coming, but we’re not stupid. We know they won’t be around for too long…

With the added news that the ad-tier isn’t launching in September (as we’d hoped) the service is a lot less exciting than it should be. Next day episodes remain a pipe dream. General Entertainment is not arriving adequately if at all. Their refusal to add missing cartoons and series when Paramount+ is doing it all the time just stings. The new habit of sending a bunch of sing-alongs each month is widely ridiculed for its inanity. Counting duplicate copies of the same movies is such a cop out way to fluff your library size and has already begun to greatly confuse and clutter the search results.
